How Can We Help You Today?

Welcome to the Local River Management Advisory Committees website

A resource for the LACs of the designated rivers in New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Rivers Management and Protection Program is a partnership between state government and local citizens on each of New Hampshire's 19 designated rivers. Citizens come together to form a local river management advisory committee (LAC) for each designated river, playing a vital role in protecting not only the river but its shorelands as well. LAC members represent the riverfront communities along the length of the river or special interest groups in the watershed. Members are nominated by their municipality or interest group, and appointed by the statewide Rivers Management Advisory Committee (RMAC). Committee members represent a broad range of interests and backgrounds. The program is guided by RSA 483.

The primary responsibilities of the LACs are to develop and implement a local river corridor management plan and advise local, state and federal governing bodies and agencies of activities that may affect the water quality, flow or use of the protected river or segment. The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) offers committees technical assistance in developing and implementing their management plans and reviewing proposed projects in the river corridor.
