The Mascoma River is part of the Connecticut River drainage basin. In 2011, 25 miles of the Mascoma River were designated, extending from Canaan to its confluence with the Connecticut River in West Lebanon. The river is popular for canoeing and kayaking, and the free-flowing section beneath the Mascoma Lake Dam is home to a yearly kayak race, the Mascoma Slalom.
